We posses unique expertize in time-dependent simulations of flows around ground vehicles. Our capabilities are based on more than 15 years of experience in techniques such as Large-Eddy Simulations (LES), Detached-Eddy Simulations (DES), Partially-Averaged Navier-Stokes (PANS) and URANS applied to vehicle flows. Through our academic activity we have pioneered techniques such as LES in vehicle aerodynamics but also developed and refined techniques such as PANS for vehicle aerodynamics applications.
The advantage of the time-dependent numerical simulations over the standard steady RANS simulations (being a standard in industry) is a much higher accuracy of the prediction but also that more flow situations can be studied. For example, flows where relative velocity of vehicles in respect to the surrounding or other vehicles is important are difficult to study in wind tunnels and impossible in steady RANS simulations. Vehicles influence by wind gusts is another application where only time-dependent simulations can provide predictions.
